…Says Igbo presidency impossible without Northern, Western regions’ support
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has explained the party’s decision to align with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview yesterday, Ezeokenwa said an Igbo presidency would be difficult to achieve without forming a broad national alliance. According to him, no Igbo candidate can secure the presidency alone without support from either the North or the western region, making political collaboration necessary.
He also noted that APGA shares the same progressive ideology with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which further strengthens the basis for cooperation. “Political parties have what we call ideologies. If you go to the manifesto of APGA, you will see that our ideology is founded on progressivism, which is the same ideology we share with the APC”, he said.
Ezeokenwa added that a comparison of APGA’s manifesto, the APC manifesto, and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda reveals common ground centered on progressive governance aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
He stated that APGA’s alignment with the president is also influenced by the longstanding political understanding on rotational presidency between the North and the South.
“Now we are saying that if you look at the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, look at the manifesto of APGA and look at the manifesto of APC, one thing is common — progressivism. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to entrench progressive ideologies that will better the lot of Nigerians.
“What we are going to do as a political party is align with Mr President, based on the coalition or accord that came into force before 1999, which provided for rotational presidency — eight years for the North and eight years for the South”, he stated.
